The 41st edition of the Bergamo Film Meeting will take place from 11 to 19 March 2023. Michaela Pavlátová, the main representative of the section dedicated to animated films of the section dedicated to animated films of the 41st BFM, will be there!
The festival will present a complete retrospective of 25 titles by this Czech director and animator, including short and feature films, including two feature films that showcase the interesting features of her poetics: the engaging rhythm, black humour and elegant architecture of her films, along with her talent for strengthening relationships and human feelings in a matter of minutes. This makes her one of the most important animators and directors on the contemporary film scene.
Michaela Pavlátová will arrive in Bergamo on Saturday 11 March in the afternoon and will return to Prague on 14 March. During these days several meetings will take place:
– Sunday 12 March at 11:00 a.m.: screening of the film Tram
– Sunday 12 March at 15:00: masterclass with students from Centro Sperimentale Torino and Scuola Civica Luchino Visconti Milano
– Sunday 12 March at 19:00: discussion with the audience
– Monday 13 March: meeting with some high school students after the film My Sunny Maad

Who is Michaela Pavlátová?
She is the main representative of the section dedicated to original animated films at the Bergamo Film Meeting and one of the most important directors and animators on the contemporary film scene. In 1987 she presented her first short animated film in 2D, Etude from an Album. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film and has since become the most internationally acclaimed animation director of the new generation, winning critical and public acclaim. She also received two major awards for Repete: Special Prize of two juries and the Golden Bear for Best Short Film in Berlin.
Between 1998 and 2002 she moved between Prague and San Francisco, where she worked as an art director for the animation studio Wildbrain Inc. She currently teaches animation at FAMU – Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, but has also worked at the Academy of Art College, Computer Arts Institute in San Francisco. She has also taught at Harvard University and VŠUP – Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague.
