The Czech conductor will become the new music director of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden from September 2025.

The Royal Opera House is one of the best opera houses in the world and Jakub Hrůša will replace long-time music director Antonio Pappano. He will be only the second Czech to become its director – in the 1950s, the opera was briefly led by Rafael Kubelík. “We were impressed not only by his outstanding artistic output but also by the generosity and warmth of his personality,” said the Royal Opera House’s director, Oliver Mears.
