Panel Discussion: Dance Criticism in the Time of Corona

Published May 25, 2021

The new project Dance and Performing Arts Criticism in Europe organizes an open panel discussion that will address the challenges and issues encountered by dance critics in the time of the pandemic.

The event is a collaboration between Taneční aktuality (Czech Dance News webzine), and Performing Arts Hub Norway. The panel discussion will be hosted by Petra Dotlačilová (CZ) and will include five guests – European dance critics: Sanjoy Roy (UK), Marisa Hayes (FR), Josef Bartoš (CZ), Hild Borchgrevink (NO), and Anette Therese Pettersen (NO).
The discussion is open to professional dance critics, dancers, producers, and a wide audience with the aim to discuss current issues: When the pandemic struck, did the critics continue to reflect the activity of dance artists under the new conditions, or did they stop following the scene due to the change of media? How did they perceive the different styles and quality of ‘dance on screen’? And has the situation changed their way of thinking – and writing – about dance?
The project is supported by EEA Grants 2014-2020.
