Office of the Estates Theatre in Prague 1800-1850 is one of the Czech-German bilingual book series that shows Prague of the 19th century as an art-loving city.
The third volume of the editorial series presents readers with writings that passed through the hands of one of the three co-directors of the Stavovský Theatre, Jan Nepomuk Štěpánek or the theater office where his partners Ferdinand Polawsky and Joseph Kainz worked.
Approximately one hundred letters and other manuscript documents preserved in the Czech Museum of Music in Prague offer insights into the daily operations of the theater. The bilingual annotated edition portrays Prague in the first half of the 19th century as an art-loving city intricately connected to the outside world and provides an opportunity for a fresh perspective on Jan Nepomuk Štěpánek as a significant and dedicated intermediary. The book was compiled and edited by Petra Ježková and Jitka Ludvová, with the letters translated into Czech by Václav Maidl, and accompanied by studies written by Petra Ježková, Dalibor Tureček, and Jitka Ludvová.
