Michaela Režová, a doctoral student at the UMPRUM Studio of Film and Television Graphics, won two prizes in the CEE Animation Forum 2021 international competition.
Michaela Režová’s latest project works with stop motion animation of sports sculptures. They, as silent witnesses of the previous regime, come to life and tell the moving story of their author, sculptor Zdeněk Němeček.
The jury described in her statement Michaela as a true filmmaker, “someone who can prove his competencies and skills in all aspects of form: in the processing of interviews, archival footage, sound, image, and movement. The director cleverly chose animation and managed to deal with the theme of a renowned but in a way controversial artist. Michaela showed great respect and empathy, as well as a passion for the project, which is necessary to complete this ambitious project. ”
The CEE Animation Forum, the leading regional pitching, financing, and co-production event, was held online from 26 April to 6 May 2021. The award ceremony marked the grand finale of the 2021 extended two-week edition showcasing 40 animated projects in 5 categories — selected from 116 submissions. International juries composed of globally renowned experts from the film industry awarded various prizes in the total amount of EUR 15,000 in cash and free scholarships or direct access to prestigious European events.
